Because You Want It So Bad...

twit-banner.jpg

Ah, cest du teatro magnifique-ant roost en la vida! Hooray! Theatre kicks ass! Hooray! It’s a life-affirming and suck-the-goo-from-your-eyeballs life-ending week ahead, folks. Brace yourself. This mothaf**r’s gonna hit you hard where it counts. Huzzah! Holla! Etc! Let’s go!

Because we haven’t been hiding in a cave these past few days, our Austinist Pick of the Week is the interweb’s new undead phenomsBitten: A Zombie Rock Oyssey. With an original score from the Unbearables, this theatrical newbie about the zombie invasion of a small Texas town has all the fixins for a bad ass night at the theatre. From Loaded Gun Theory, the show opens this weekend at the Dougherty Arts Center. Go see it. If you need more info, go here.

Blacks Arts Movement Festival, Austin Cabaret Theatre, Parade, Capital City Men’s Chorus and more theatre de la casa after the jump.

BLACK ARTS MOVEMENT (BAM!) FESTIVAL
Last week’s Austinist PofW moves into high gear for its enormous second week. Robert Moses’ Kin Dance Company explores race, culture, gender and more through movement at the Boyd Vance Theatre tonight at 8pm. SoulFest Music Festival will help you get down ‘til it feels good Saturday afternoon at Kenny Dorham’s Backyard (1106 E 11th). Fabulation, or the Re-Education of the Undine brings drama to the Boyd Vance Theatre on Tuesday, and UpRise! Productions – a company who’s amazing stage combat made a big splash at last year’s FronteraFest – brings their unique performance aesthetic to the Boyd Vance Theatre on Wednesday. Go to the ProArts Collective site, they’ll sort it all out for you.

PARADE
A man wrongfully accused of murder gets screwed thanks to racism. And singing! And dancing! Ok, it’s probably not your typical musical. St. Edwards University brings this brilliantly crafted show to the Mary Moody Northen Theatre, directed by Ev Lunning Jr.

THE GREAT DISAPEARING ACT
An "evening of personal dances, songs, text, soundscapes, and magic" performed by two “middle-aged” women in somebody’s house. We think that sums it up quite nicely, so we’ll leave it there. The performance opens October 1st. Call 442-1676 for reservations.

AUSTIN CABARET THEATRE: JIM CARUSO’S CAST PARTY
To some folks, Jim Caruso is merely some chatty guy from New York. But to you, dear fan of the cabaret, Jim is a witty devil and talented performer, bringing his big city charm to our quaint little burg. Featuring AusChron’s arts editor, Robert Faires, and his wife Rosalind (amongst others, we’re sure). TONIGHT ONLY at 6pm. Just a heads up, tickets start at $35, and can be obtained by calling this number: 495-1800

MIDNIGHT CABARET WITH THE CAPITOL CITY MEN’S CHORUS
What? Two cabarets in one night? Why the hell not? You can check out Jim Caruso at 6pm, then head over to the Vortex to imbibe some camp hilarity. This cabaret features Rob Faubian, editor of Shout Magazine. We sense a catty rivalry hiding just beneath the surface. And we love it. Tonight and tomorrow at 9pm. Call 478.5282 for tickets, or read our preview post for more info.

For all the other shows in town still running from last weekend, check out last week’s TWIT.
