Austinist Preview & Giveaway : Xiu Xiu at Emo's Tonight

Emo's is the place to be tonight as California experimental post-punkers Xiu Xiu bring their darkly gorgeous new album The Air Force to life. If you caught Xiu Xiu at Emo's Annex during South By Southwest this year, you know that Jamie Stewart's noise-and-melody symphonies are even better live than they are on wax. Stewart and live partner Caralee McElroy make the absolute most out of their collection of drums, guitars, shakers, keys and noisemakers - all complimented by Stewart's alternately beautiful and unhinged vocals.

Xiu Xiu will be joined by one-man precussion act Congs for Brums (brainchild of Ches Smith who also performed in 7 year rabbit cycle with Stewart, and in Ceramic Dog with longtime Tom Waits sideman Marc Ribot) and LA-based "positive rap" act Barr. And as if that wasn't enough, the two-for-one admission also includes Serena Maneesh, Magnolia Electric Co., Bottomless Pit and Wovenhand, who'll be performing on the outside stage.

Xiu Xiu is the most loathsome band in recent memory. It's hard to find something not to hate about them.
