Almodóvar gets a rare and worthy second look: Beginning next Friday, October 6th, the Arbor has a two-week treat for fans of Pedro Almodóvar. The controversial and flamboyant director of All About My Mother and Talk To Her will receive the retrospective treatment, as the Arbor shows new prints of eight of Pedro's films until October 19th. Titles include early classics Matador and Law Of Desire, which are not even available on DVD in the States! This is a rare chance to catch up with one of our generation's best auteurs. The screening dates are as follows:

WOMEN ON THE VERGE OF... and ALL ABOUT MY MOTHER (10/6-10/9)
TALK TO HER and FLOWER OF MY SECRET (10/10-10/12)
LAW OF DESIRE and MATADOR (10/12-10/16)
LIVE FLESH and BAD EDUCATION (10/17-10/19)

We missed it, too: Without warning, the Alamo Downtown immediately sold out one of the coolest screenings they've ever secured. On Saturday, October 14th, Austin part-timer Quentin Tarantino will take a break from filming Death Proof to show the original 4+ hour director's cut of Kill Bill in public for the first time. The full-color battle footage omitted from the original release will be restored in gory glory, and many new scenes will get a first airing. We have no doubt that this will make it to DVD at some point, but we remain jealous at those who stumbled across this on the Alamo's website during the few hours tickets were available. Maybe someone should start an email campaign for a second screening.
