Though many of its shops have been open for some time now, Austin's brand-new Chinatown Center on North Lamar celebrates its official grand opening this weekend. The two-day spectacle includes live music (The Ocean Band, Frequent Flyers, Ánh Duóng), martial arts demonstrations (Master Yi’s World Tukong Moosul Federation, Shaolin-Do Kung Fu), and local dragon dancers.
The 180,000-square-foot space is anchored by the behemoth M.T. Supermarket, where you'll come across everyday market staples (fresh produce, seafood, etc) as well as several harder-to-find items, like frozen snakehead chunks. We stopped by a few weeks ago and found their prices to be considerably lower than most grocery stores in town.

Pecan Street Project Gets $10.4 Million Stimulus Grant

Hey! this is great! I'm happy to hear that austin's getting a chinatown. i can't wait to check it out...
Ha-ha! I come from a city where the words "China Town" aren't followed by "Shopping Center".
I guess the railroad didn't stop here. C'est dommage.
