Yes, it sucks that there is so little lead-time on this event. The first Austin Music Mixer! It’s tonight. TONIGHT, damnit.
But don’t act like you’re super busy on Tuesday nights anyway. What, CSI: Waco Suburbs got your evening on-lock? Tivo that bullshit and mingle with other musicians.
Here’s their press release, in their own musicianesque words:
--------------------------------------------------------------------
The Austin Music Foundation (AMF) today announces the launch of the Austin Music Mixer, a twice-monthly networking event where musicians and industry professionals can meet in an informal environment to share experiences, learn from each other, and develop valuable contacts to enhance their careers.
The first Austin Music Mixer will kick off at Opal Divine’s, on West Sixth Street, Tuesday, September 26, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The mixer will continue at Opal Divine’s throughout the fall with meeting dates on Tuesdays: Oct.10^ and 24; Nov. 7 and 28; and Dec.12, 2006.
The idea of the Austin Music Mixer was sparked by the popularity of another Austin Music Foundation program, Music Industry Boot Camp (MIBC), music and business education seminars which feature a Networking session at the conclusion of each event. With a diverse cross-section of Austin music professionals in the same room at one time; these networking opportunities are always a big hit with attendees.
“We realized that no one in Austin was providing events where a group like this could get together on a regular basis,” said Nikki Rowling, executive director of AMF. “We all know that relationship-building is an important part of creating business opportunities, and we received feedback from a number of artists letting us know they were interested in more networking time. The Austin Music Mixer helps fulfill AMF’s mission of creating a more united and sustainable music community”.
Attendees can kick back with a beverage, meet new folks who share their passion for making a living in the music industry, and develop relationships that may prove beneficial to their music-career endeavors. AMF invites all musicians and industry professionals desiring to broaden their networking opportunities to attend. Happy hour prices for cocktails will be in effect during the event, and attendance is free of charge.
