Perhaps you've heard that the comedy scenes in both LA and New York are excellent these days. You might have gotten a taste of this when Eugene Mirman and Aziz Ansari rolled through town in March for SXSW. If you've been wishing for an NYC weekend to catch a show or two, don't book that ticket just yet. Several of the best acts are heading right here for Austinites to watch this fall...
Michael Ian Black + Michael Showalter (Stella, The State) and Todd Barry - Emo's - 10/21:
Though Comedy Central failed to renew Stella for a second season, two-thirds of the troupe will hit Emo's with their surreal and very successful variety-comedy show in October. They'll bring along secret weapon Todd Barry, perhaps the driest comedian since Stephen Wright. Barry's slow, unforced humor never fails to kill, and will provide a contrast to the gleefully over the top Black and Showalter, who you may also know from The State or VH1. (tickets)
Demetri Martin - Paramount Theater - 11/18:
As both a writer for David Letterman and a correspondent on The Daily Show, Demitri Martin has been quietly causing laughter for years. In October, he will release his first CD, which he is supporting with a Comedy Central special that will be recorded at the Paramount. (tickets on sale soon)
Patton Oswalt - Cap City Comedy Club - 11/30-12/2:
Oswalt is a veteran of the Comedians Of Comedy tour which also featured Eugene Mirman and Zach Galifianakis, and also spent time touring with Aimee Mann (he did her stage banter between songs so she'd be funny.) Patton is making his second Austin appearance of the year, portions of which will be recorded for a new comedy CD. (tickets)

Those guys are great! I can't wait. Demand that Jim come to town too!

It's Demetri Martin. Note the difference in spelling.
Hey, that's astute spell-checking, fogelsong! We really need to pay our huge copy-editing staff some higher wages. Maybe we shouldn't have spent so much on these penthouse floor offices.
