In other culinary news, can we borrow $130 a ticket for some kick-ass supper this Sunday?

Outstanding in the Field presents an open-air feast so local you can see where your food was grown. Boggy Creek Farm and Guest Chef Terry Conlan of Lake Austin Spa Resort hosts the seventh stop on Outstanding in the Field's 2006 North American Farm Tour.

Enjoy a tour of Boggy Creek Farm led by some two of Austin's favorite foodies Larry Butler and Carol Ann Sayle of Boggy Creek Farm, then sit down to a five-course, family-style meal. Chef Conlan's menu features produce harvested fresh that day at Boggy Creek and other Austin and central Texas farms, including locally sourced grass-fed meats, cheeses, and olive oils paired with Texas wines.

Now that your culinary Saturday is free, stop by the new Galaxy Cafe on West Lynn. Chris Courtney and Kelly Chappell have put together another (more convenient) gem that blends retro-modern decor with retro-modern recipes (pork chops with apricot glaze, perfect macaroni and cheese, grilled skirt steak with chimichurri sauce) to create a fantastic atmosphere perfect for a first date. Austinist recommendation: the "bring your own wine" list (their liquor license still seems to be under negotiations) makes for a relaxing alternative to barhopping.

  • Well, this seems very innovative and
conceptual. Thanks for such a great read.

North Austin has the lock on decent Indian, Vietnamese, and Chinese food in this town.

  • Up north is the only place to get the good Indian victuals and Asian groceries. I'll gladly make the trek to Madras Pavilion or Star o' India anytime if I get the Indi-yen.

Otherwise the north does suck for restaurants, but there are plenty of disasters down south and some stuff, Zen I'm looking at you, is just way overrated wherever you eat it. BTW: Clay Pit is overrated too. Booya!

The Galaxy Cafe on West Lynn is great. The albacore tuna wrap is great for lunch.

I also agree with Tim, Northern Austin is where restaurants go to die (case in point the new Curra's installation...what a travesty!!)

Ahh, with Galaxy Cafe open now you central austinites can find out why so many of us feel so happy living to the south (compared to those prenial grumpsters up north, I'd be grumpy too if I had to eat at their restaurants).
