Tech Boom Redux?

Unemployed techies, it's time to start dusting off those resumes and polishing your interview skills.

Apparently India and Poland aren't the only places where Dell is planning to expand its workforce. During a stopover in Poland today where he is to announce the building of a new plant, Michael Dell, Chairman of the Board at the tech giant, declared that they will soon be hiring 500 additional engineers in Austin.

Bloomberg and Reuters say that a formal announcement is expected later this week. The Statesman reports that the new hiring wave would represent the largest of its kind in Austin since the tech boom of the late 90s.

For those of you with more exotic tastes -- More exotic than Round Rock? Impossible -- the news servies also report that Dell plans to hire 600 people in Slovakia.

Keep Bratislava Weird.

  • just saw KVUE interviewing someone from (i believe to be) the Chamber of Commerce, talking about how the hiring by Dell has to be a good sign for all of Austin and make everyone here feel good about the job market and growth. or something.

    spin at 11.

Personally I'd take any other job over Dell. I guess they've had so many people quit over the last few years that they need to have a massive rehire.

Bratislava's about 45 minutes from Vienna - i'd take that any day over Round stinking Rock.

Slovakia sounds like a better commute than Round Rock, and apparently Waco is local according to the Statesman.
