Guest ColumnIST: The Laurie Show

The following is a weekly column by guest contributor Laurie Gallardo. Hear her on KUT 90.5FM on Friday nights, 11pm-3am. -- The Editors

Oooh, my achin’ head. There was a party goin’ down…

Good day to you, music fans! If you weren’t enjoying last night’s music and festivities at the Austinist’s high-energy pre-ACL party, Local Music Is Sexy 2, I regret to inform you that you missed one hell of a great time. I was honored to serve as emcee of this year’s event (although I had to remind myself to shut up and keep it short at the mic), and the evening served as inspiration for the playlist I’m assembling for this evening’s Laurie Show on KUT 90.5.

I await CD’s from Horse + Donkey and ‘Til We’re Blue Or Destroy, two bands that started the night off right, so kids, get me your music as soon as you can. But I do have CD’s from the others on the marquee that I’ll feature tonight: Loxsly, Brothers and Sisters, and the IV Thieves. Great show, everyone! And thanks to the Mohawk on Red River for providing such a great performance space. Check it out when you get the chance; it’s been refurbished quite attractively.

Of course, tonight will be chock full of artists who’ll grace the stages of the ACL Festival. My playlist is so far evolving into an impressive mixture of both local and touring acts: Ted Leo + The Pharmacists, Nada Surf, Iron & Wine, the White Ghost Shivers, Explosions In the Sky, the Flaming Lips, the Long Winters, What Made Milwaukee Famous and Okkervil River, to start.

There will also be music from many more local artists, as you well know, along with my usual assortment of odds and ends, and “Oh, that sounds like fun.” Check in with me this evening, 11 p.m. to 3 in the frickin’ morning. It’s KUT 90.5. And, of course, as RoboCop would say: Thank you for your cooperation.
