Local Music Is Sexy 2 Preview: Brothers and Sisters, or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Support Local Music

You’ve probably heard it through the grapevine that Brothers and Sisters is making quite an impression here in A-town. It seems that everywhere we turn, their name pops up in reference to a buzz they’ve produced in our local scene, so strong it threatens to drown out all indie-rock competition in a five hundred mile radius. We say kudos. With an influx of great bands like them, our scene’s standards have been raised ever higher, pushing prospective poseurs to margins and keeping the spotlight on our ‘burg.

Their Mamas-and-the-Papas-have-a-BBQ-with-Wilco stage show is quite a spectacle to behold. Not just your average "put-as-many-musicians-onstage-and-hope-for-the-best” performances, either. In the wake of mega-successes like The Arcade Fire and Broken Social Scene, sprawling imitators that can’t keep it together are becoming all too common. BAS, however, manages the team with aplomb, radiating good vibrations and sunny Cali-pop. Their arrangements are deceptively dense, yet cleverly keep focus on an effortless, infectious and undeniably positive energy.

With their eponymous new album finished, upcoming dates with the likes of Spoon and Okkervil River, and a nationwide tour on the horizon, you’re gonna want to catch them ASAP. “Where?,” you ask. How about Austinist’s Local Music Is Sexy 2 ACL pre-party spectacular tomorrow night at the freshly christened Mohawk?

Here’s the plan. First, check out their Myspace page and do a little pre-show prep work. Next, simply arrive at the aforementioned shindig tomorrow evening, grab a drink, and soak up the goodness. What better way to kick off a weekend where we invite the out-of-towners to come play than to showcase some of the best our city has to offer?
