Austinist Music Preview: New Release Tuesday

nrt.jpg

Hang on to your wristbands, people, there's a lot going on this week in the world of legitimately released music!

rapture.jpg The Rapture Pieces of the People We Love (UMVD)

The Rapture have finally caught up with their own hype following 2003's Echoes, working with producers Danger Mouse (Gorillaz/Gnarls Barkley), Paul Epworth (Bloc Party) and Ewan Pearson (UK DJ/Remixer) and delivering a disco, funk, punk and pop-influenced album worthy of all your parties, speedy drives across town and late night makeout sessions. "Get Myself Into It" and "The Devil" are standout tracks, but the whole album is brisk, clean and unbearably hip.

xiu.jpg Xiu Xiu The Airforce (Kill Rock Stars)

Love them or hate them, Xiu Xiu have released their strongest album to date, full of intensity and fever. "Boy Soprano" thumps through its thick and persistent backdrop as Jamie Stewart ruminates over purity and escape. Love, sex, dominance and suicide themes swirl across the album, but the cohesive whole stands out as an inspiring listen.

vivavoce Viva Voce Get Yr Blood Sucked Out (Barsuk)

Recorded and produced entirely within the confines of their Portland, Oregon home, Get Yr Blood Sucked Out is a masterful collection of psych-infused, folk tunes. As Viva Voce (Italian for "by word of mouth"), husband-and-wife duo Kevin and Anita Robinson manage to create pastoral, beautiful harmonies anchored by densely-layered instrumentation. Be sure to check them out in early October, when they'll be playing with Silversun Pickups.

jt.jpg Justin Timberlake FutureSex/LoveSounds (Jive)

You've no doubt been forced to listen to "Sexy Back" by now, but Timberlake's album surpasses the purposefully dance club-ready first single. "FutureSex/LoveSound" is just plain good, and we have no problem claiming it as a 100% non-ironic top pick for this week.

Pick of the Week:

jb.jpg Junior Boys So This is Goodbye (Domino)

Undoubtedly one of the best albums of the year, regardless of what happens between now and December, So This is Goodbye is gorgeous, sexy and innovative. Rarely do artists present you with music that is utterly perfect for glistening dancefloor hookups and morning after shuffling. Incredible mood, irresistible beats and inspiring versions of electro-pop fill this album with song after perfect song. Stay tuned this week, Junior Boys are playing on Friday at Emo's, and we're going to give away a pair of tickets!
