Out the Other's ACL Previews: David Ford, The Tragically Hip, Iron & Wine and More

David Ford-1

Here's another batch of bands from my ACL Artist Previews Page; remember you can check out the whole site at any time.

David Ford - "State of the Union" is quite possibly the most amazing song I have stumbled upon while writing these previews, proving that David Ford is not just another singer/songwriter. (full preview)

Ghandaia - Austin's Ghandaia is a nine-piece "Latin groove ensemble" that blends as many influences as there are members in the band. (full preview)

Terri Hendrix - It has been ten years since Texas folk singer Terri Hendrix self-released her debut album, and now the fiercely independent performer is enjoying a well-earned widespread grassroots following. (full preview)

The Tragically Hip - Being the "biggest band in Canada" might be a bit "like being the world's tallest midgets," but the wild popularity of The Tragically Hip in their home country is the result of the band's solid rock sound, brilliant lyrics and excellent live show. (full preview)

BoDeans - If you were a fan of Party of Five, you're already familiar with BoDeans - the show's theme song is the band's tune "Closer to Free" - but you might not know that the Wisconsin band is a consistent live act that has been slogging it out for more than twenty years. (full preview)

Mishka - The younger brother of Heather Nova grew up with his parents on thier sailboat in the West Indies, and when they decided to move back to Canada, Mishka returned to the Caribbean to become both a professional windsurfer and a talented reggae-pop musician. (full preview)

Claire Small - This Nashville singer/songwriter was treated to a rare classroom treat in the 4th grade, and she quickly decided to spend her life as a singer, songwriter and live performer. (full preview)

The Gospel Silvertones - There's little on the internet about the Gospel Silvertones, but I'm sure we'll learn more about this relatively new Austin gospel act by catching them on the Washington Mutual Stage. (full preview)

Oliver Mtukudzi & Black Spirits - Oliver "Tuku" Mtukudzi has been one of Zimbabwe's greatest and longest-lasting artists since he began performing in the late '70s, even credited with the creation of a style of music called "Tuku" - a creative blend of South African musical traditions. (full preview)

Iron & Wine - Sam Beam's "whispery tales" have been captivating audiences even at large festivals like Bonnaroo - which is good news for anyone planning to see him at ACL this year. (full preview)
