Austinist Giveaway and Show Preview: The Advantage @ Emo's

advantage.jpgHey you! Put down that GameBoy and keep your eyes on the road! You're gonna KILL somebody.

Ahem. For those of us dangerously, illegally addicted to such handheld trivialities, but wish the sound card was a little punchier, look no further than tonight's featured entertainment at Emo's: a cover band 100% dedicated to 8-bit Nintendo soundtracks. Trade in those bloopy MIDI tunes for full-blooded rock action as The Advantage faithfully recreate the themes from such classics as Castlevania III, Mega Man II, and...SolarJetMan. Ok, so they're not all classics, but we'll take a curveball every now and then.

Those of us who could give two shakes of a lamb's tail about antique timewasters should come out anyway, as the Austin-based support acts warrant a showcase all their own. The Invincible Czars thrill with Zappa-esque arrangements and a general worldbeat-meets-ADD sound; Daniel Francis Doyle creates creepily cathartic post-rock collages that sound like music but look like emotional cardio routines. [And Horse Plus Donkey are playing our annual Local Music is Sexy party next Thursday -- stay tuned for the announcement later today -- so you can be sure that we're awfully fond of them! -- Eds.]
