Efterklang One Sided LP (Burnt Toast Vinyl)

The Copenhagen 10-piece provides three more incredible songs on this one-sided LP courtesy Burnt Toast (see also Bosque Brown's release today on the same label, also a part of the "One Sided LP" series). Danish singer Martin Hall makes an appearance on one track, as do Edda Rún Ólafsdóttir and Hildur Àrsælsdóttir from Amiina, making what seems like a short-ended release a truly full-bodied and textured collection. Look into the rest of the One Sided series for releases by the likes of Damien Jurado, Early Day Miners, The Six Parts Seven, Yume Bitsu, Ester Drang, Mt. Eerie, Starflyer 59, June Panic, and Aspera.

Explosions in the Sky The Rescue EP (Free web release)

Recorded here in Austin (at home), The Rescue is the result of the band's decision to approach songwriting in a new and more challenging way. After a busy year and a promise to contribute to the Travels in Constants series, EITS decided that instead of spending months on one song, they'd spend one day. Eight days later, they had eight songs, and the EP was mastered and mixed in a few short days following the songwriting sessions. Though released in 2005 as a part of the Travels in Constants series, the album has been unavailable and out of print for quite some time. Fear not, you can download all eight tracks (Days 1-8) at the website for free. Austin's own Explosions in the Sky have nothing to fear writing music in this "rushed" manner: the songs are just as elegant and atmospheric as ever.
