It starts with the clang of a triangle, and then you’re off: The Weird Weeds take listeners on a surreal ride to an undisclosed location in their latest self-titled release. Bandmates Sandy Ewen (guitar/vocals), Nick Hennies (percussion/vocals), and Aaron Russell (guitar) strive to guarantee that no band has so aptly lived up to its own name before The Weird Weeds came into existence. The disc features ample loops, distortion, poly-rhythmic percussion, screeches, howls, and chants that ensure the maximum amount of weirdness possible without alienating listeners. Coupled with the album’s brevity -- it’s only about 30 minutes long -- you'll find yourself inclined to listen over and over again. To push the metaphor over the brink, the music is like a weird weed that takes root in the garden of your mind. You can’t really single out any track in the bunch; it's a strange, Zappa-esque experience that has to be enjoyed as a whole.
They'll be playing a CD release and tour kickoff show tomorrow night at Emo's, with The Theatre Fire, Jonathan Horne, & Ralph White. Fill out the form below for your chance to win a pair of spots on the guestlist, plus a copy of their latest album!
