Weed and Guns and Longhorns, Oh My! (Redux)

weed.jpgHere we go again.

Another Texas Longhorn football player has been busted with the sticky icky and a weapon. Just months after running back sensation Ramonce Taylor was arrested, authorities arrested starting cornerback Tarell Brown early this morning on weed and weapons charges. UT alum and standout linebacker from a year ago, Aaron Harris, was also arrested. Mack Brown has been informed of the arrests but has yet to release a statement.

The timing of Brown’s arrest could not be worse. The Horns play #1 Ohio State University and their All-American wide receiver Ted Ginn this Saturday in Austin. Brown was to cover the receiver who put up over 100 yards receiving last weekend against Northern Illinois. The Horns will now scramble to adjust to what will probably be life without Brown who faces a Class A misdemeanor for weapons possession and Class B misdemeanor for the weed (less than 2 oz.). However, if charges are still pending come game time, there is a chance Brown could still play him, though it would be a bit of a publicity nightmare for the Horns, who will be playing on national television Saturday.

And, should you think that this was just a one-time goof by Harris and Brown, think again. Inside Texas (in affiliation with Scout.com) reports that in December 2004, Harris and Brown were passengers in a car from which a gun was shot.

What do you think? How should Mack and AD DeLoss Dodds proceed?

Release him from his scholarship so he can transfer to Oregon. We're all about the potsmokers in Eugene.

  • I think that they had been watching discovery channel and were probably out hunting for the real killer, that evil stingray.
