The September Lull: This Week's New Movie Releases

Ah, the sweet smell of college freshmen. School's back in session, summer is almost over (in theory), and it's a few weeks before the holiday movie rush begins (Exhibit A: this week's slim pickin's).
*Trust the Man
We’ve got one word for the entire cast of this movie: yum.
The Wicker Man
God bless Nic Cage. He tries, ya know? What a trooper.
The Quiet
This film is receiving fairly poor reviews, which is unfortunate, as it’s produced by local Burnt Orange Productions. But we're gonna find out for ourselves; expect a full review from us shortly.
Crank
A hit man is injected with a poison that will kill him if his heart rate drops below a certain point, and he has to find the people who did this to him before he dies. Sounds like Speed for people who didn’t actually see Speed.
Crossover
Apparently, someone’s gonna hafta choke Wayne Brady.
Idiocracy
Lucky (?) Austin. Mike Judge’s (Office Space) new one is being released in limited cities today. Basic plot: Luke Wilson is hired by the government 1,000 years in the future, and he discovers that society has become so dumbed-down that he’s the most intelligent person on the planet. Does anyone else see the irony in this? Well, we're seeing it tonight, anyways, so we'll let you know how it turns out.
*Austinist recommends. We also recommend these fine cinematic experiences: Clerks II, The Descent, An Inconvenient Truth, Little Miss Sunshine, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, A Scanner Darkly, Strangers with Candy, Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, and yes, okay, we'll go ahead and recommend Snakes on a Plane.
