Hello, kiddoes! Once again, the week sails by, and before I know it, it’s Friday. Time for another edition of the Laurie Show. Funny, though, how my wheels start clicking at the beginning of the week and I’m already compiling a playlist by Tuesday. That’s how much music there is to offer…
First, some bullet points about local peeps:
M. Grusha and Russell Karlof make up the dynamic duo She, Sir, and together, they create some phenomenal music. I eagerly anticipate a copy of their latest album, “Who Can’t Say Yes”, which is being released this month. Expect a profile about their work on Before the Break on the KUT 90.5 website soon.
Speaking of Before the Break, there are quite a few profiles on the way, although apologies are in order for the loooong wait that each of these talented artists have had to endure: Peel, the White Ghost Shivers, Rachel Goldstar, the Handsome Charlies, For Those Who Know, the aforementioned She, Sir, Go Nova and Dynah. Also on the BTB list are Ian Orth, mega party promoter, deejay and energetic mind behind Learning Secrets; and Rob Jasinski, proprietor of Cream Vintage on Guadalupe, as well as event planner, musician and music supporter. Hang in there, kids. Before the Breaks are on the way!
I’ve featured the Lovely Sparrows on BTB previously, and my, how they’ve evolved and expanded! As some of you may know, I’ve become completely enamored with their forthcoming EP, “Pulling Up Floors, Pouring On (New) Paint,” released by the Abandoned Love Records label. It’s lovely, melodic music with powerful stories behind it. Expect to hear more from this band on my show.
I’ve said it before, and I do not hesitate to say it again – The Tuna Helpers are irresistible. Their beautifully eerie melodies certainly appeal to my darker tastes. Thanks to guitarist and vocalist Adrienne for reminding me about their show tomorrow night at Room 710 on Red River, with Darling New Neighbors and White Denim.
In other news: Expect a smattering of goodies tonight courtesy of one of my favorite labels, Hush, out of Portland, Oregon. The label is home to artists such as Norfolk & Western, Parks and Recreation, and Blanket Music, to name a few. A huge thank-you goes to Chad Crouch and Corinna Repp of Hush for providing music for my show.
So much more music and many more shows about town to mention, but the list is far too big! Be sure to tune in tonight to KUT for details, 11 p.m. to 3 a.m., and make it 90.5 on your FM dial. You can also stream it, baby: www.kut.org.
As RoboCop would say, “Thank you for your cooperation.”
