Chuy's Green Chile Festival Spices Up State, Even in Cities We Don't Recognize

hatch%5B1%5D.jpg

On the heels of Central Market’s Hatch Chile Festival, Chuy’s restaurants in Austin (yay!), Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Round Rock and Shenandoah (where?) are two days into their 18th Annual Green Chile Festival which runs Monday, August 28 through Sunday, September 17.

The information on Chuy’s website is inversely proportional to the size of their big-ass chimichanga, announcing, “Fun Giveaways, Commemorative T-shirts for sale & great new menu items featuring New Mexico's famous green chile.” That’s all well and good, but being the info-hogs we are, we wanted to know more about this celebration of gluttony and impending fire-in-the-hole. (Sorry, couldn’t resist.)

Lucky for us, Hatch pepper enthusiast Tiffany over at Sparkle Boat sent us the play-by-play of her own personal Hatch Chilympiad. (Check her out, anyone who spends time blogging about green chile brownies is definitely a friend of ours.)

Shenandoah Texas - What a crappy little town!

Where cops per capita is the highest of any city in Texas.

Where the freakin cops WILL look in their rear view mirror at your car attempting to find a violation and subsequently let you pass by, then pull you over and write a ticket!

I45 runs through their jurisdiction - the local cops as well as DPS are out there at least 50% of the time writing tickets.... If you get a traffic ticket in Shenandoah Texas, you will pay a fine of some sort, they even charge for dismissals, period, end of story. Traffic fines are a major resource for the so-called city.

Oh, and to stay on topic, Hubble and Hudson on The Woodlands Waterway will be hosting it's first annual Hatch Chile Roast Festival in August, 2009.

by the way shenandoah is about 45 minutes north of Houston and about 5 minutes away from the woodlands.

  • OTIS!

Yup. Shenandoah is in the clusterfuck of stores in the Woodlands just north of the Woodlands pavillion where all the big shows come. God I hate houston.

I have been to the Chuy's in Shenandoah! It's not nearly as mythical as it sounds...I think it's actually a conglomerate of strip centers and big box stores north of Houston near Conroe. See you at PR!
