- Despite some rumors that Wilco would headline Shiner's annual Bocktoberfest, the event's main act is...Godsmack. Well, yeah, that's pretty much the same as Wilco. We just feel sorry for the Old 97's, who seem to be the only good act on the bill. Ask for a keg in your rider, guys. By the way, the 97's will warm up for Shiner with a 10/13 gig at Stubb's.
- Speaking of drinking, Kinky Friedman is pulling out the big guns for fall fundraising. Last week, Margaritaville mogul Jimmy Buffett announced a September 19th Kinky benefit show at the Paramount. To put the venue in perspective, Buffett is playing a sold out Madison Square Garden just five days before the Austin gig. Saturday's onsale completely overwhelmed the Gettix.net website, causing crashes and much frustration for local Parrotheads. The show sold out within an hour, and the Statesman says $350,000 was raised for the Kinkster's TV ads in the coming months.
- The Rapture will return to Austin in early November with a show at Emo's on 11/7. Just before that, indie Canadians Broken Social Scene will hit Stubb's on 10/26. It's like Williamsburg West around here. Polish your white belts.
- Another ACL after show event is also on sale for Emo's: Kings Of Leon and The Stills on Friday 9/15. After suffering through a nearly concert-less August, it's a little painful to find Sufjan Stevens, Gomez, The Shins, Junior Boys, and Kings Of Leon all playing in our town at the exact same time. An embarrassment of riches, we guess?
- One final bit of awesomeness: the cult internet hit 'Yacht Rock' will screen at the Drafthouse Downtown on Tuesday, 9/19. If you're not in the loop, this no-budget series chronicles the lives of late 70's-early 80's soft rockers like Michael McDonald, Kenny Loggins, Hall and Oates, and Christopher Cross. A Yacht Rock cover band will also enliven the proceedings. We hope they serve wine coolers.

My co-worker's the bassist in the yacht rock cover band. Just FYI apparently they're not playing any Hall & Oates tunes, or at any rate not rehearsing them. No Steely Dan either. Dammit!
Godsmack = Wilco?
Most ignorant comment evar.
"z" doesn't get sarcasm, apparently.
Z = Genius commenter. Please continue to read every sentence on Austinist literally. Including these.
Wilco will, however, be playing in San Antone the day before Bocktoberfest. link
Dangit.... link: http://wilcoworld.net/tours/index.php
tom got the wilco in SA covered weeks ago. Do you know who you're fuckin with?
Hey Z, your refriegerator is running. Better go get it.
Just went on Emo's website--it doesn't look like Kings of Leon is on sale yet. Or is it already sold out?
