Whether you go down to the local record store or shop through the Tubes, today is new release Tuesday.
Birdmonster No Midnight (SpinART)
Despite the rock n roll media's underwhelmed response, No Midnight is going to be the biggest indie seller this week, quite easily. Considering the fact that they gained their audience primarily through the web, and were unsigned at the start of the year, it's a pleasant surprise to see such a popular favorite officially available. Dance-worthy pop hooks and Modest Mouse on speed bursts of frenetics make this album a favorite with those into that sort of thing, just imagine a Clap Your Hands Say Yeah! fan's wet dream combined with Weezer purists and white belts and you've got No Midnight. Don't say we didn't warn you.

Bob Dylan Modern Times (Columbia)
The final installment of the trilogy begun with Time Out of Mind and Love and Theft, Modern Times is sure to be the giant belly flop overshadowing the rest of this week's major releases. While Dylan has been characteristically quiet about what we can expect, but you can stream it using AOL and let us know what you think. You might also want to go here and check out Dylan's "Theme Time Radio Hour", a XM radio show he does that focuses on one theme each week. Following the link will take you to archived shows, with themes like "Weather", "Dogs", "Jail" and "Coffee".
M Ward Post-War (Merge)
So when you let someone like M Ward chillax with someone like Conor Oberst, only one thing can happen. Well two, but we like to keep things clean around here. Fine, three. Chilling with Oberst makes Ward just a tad political (you're reading the titles, right?), and he's said that the concept surrounds the homecoming of Iraq veterans. With appearances by Neko Case and Jim James (My Morning Jacket), Post-War has already received glowing reviews, and we look forward to his fall tour.

Last Week's Album You Shouldn't Miss:
J Dilla The Shining (BBE)
Undoubtedly hip-hop but relentlessly dynamic and ground-breaking, J Dilla was on the cusp of nothing short of genius with tracks like "E=MC2" and "Body Movin'" (a track he created with Karriem Riggins, a hugely talented jazz drummer who also works with Common and Slum Village) on this posthumous release. We will never know what else he had up his sleeve, but if this is a hint, we can only hope that there's someone out there talented enough to grab the reins.
