So Much Better than Tetris

While gathering in the conference room to watch DVDs about your esteemed corporate founder or practicing falling off of chairs and into each other's arms as part of a trust exercise have always been a great way to spend an hour or two not surfing the internets at work away from your cubicle, the Writers' League of Texas has introduced a new program that will make you not dread the email from Human Resources, subject line: Please Meet in Conference Room at 2pm. Drinks served.

The Writers' League is launching Writers in the Workplace, a new program that will bring mainstream local authors into Central Texas offices to read, sign and conduct Q&A sessions. The eight writers involved include Jeff Abbott (Fear), Sarah Bird (The Flamenco Academy), Spike Gillespie (Pissed Off: On Women and Anger), Stephen Harrigan (Challenger Park), Karen Olsson (Waterloo), Dao Strom (The Gentle Order of Girls and Boys), Jesse Sublett (Never the Same Again: A Rock n Roll Gothic), and Lawrence Wright (The Looming Tower: Al-Qaeda and the Road to 9/11). Very cool. Maybe not as entertaining as this guy, but still, very cool.

The program comes with a charge, but we're sure if you can all pony up $5 to charity to wear blue jeans to work on Fridays, your HR department can find some money for a little literary edification.
