An Oasis ... Of Bile!

KXAN reported today on the openly gay Austinite who tried to enlist in the military earlier this week and was promptly shot down by recruiters at the U.S. Army Recruiting Office. And while the situation is newsworthy in and of itself, if not something of an ideological quagmire, it's the responses to KXAN's online poll -- "Should an openly gay person be allowed to serve in the U.S. military?" -- that have us fascinated.

Check out excerpts from the heated discussion below, or head over to KXAN and enter the fray!

No recruiter in his/her right would even consider this as a serious applicant. Queers, by definition of their biological, dirty, filty behavior, are not and should never be considered as military worthy. No body wants to discuss their sexual behavior (Sodomy, anal, oral, etc)). I don't even want to be around these people much less serve with them. By the way. I'm a very much proud and retired military member. No way jose.

I don't think gay and lesbian individu*******hould serve in the military because it takes REAL men and women to be focused on their missions. I would be afraid that too much fooling around would happen - and that's not why you should be in the military.

Stop supporting Gays an Lesbians through the media, put GOD in your life and live for Jesus not Satin.

It's like this, Gays and Lesbians make straight people nervious to be around. By this person coning out and saying she is gay up front is nothing more than Gays pushing their political agenda through the media. Start your own military camp and have your base in FRANCE.

Hey LF -- Time to put your teeth back in and get your robe on -- the Grand Dragon says you're late for the meetin'!

Gays can kill people just as well as straights can. They've been doing it for hundreds of centuries.

The ban on gay people is based solely on prejudice.

Just as a thought....the gay/lesbian agenda is "total integration" and the military service is a red herring issue. Queers need not apply! Start your own military!

Homosexual activity is just plain wrong. I served for five years between college and law school, and can confidently say there were no homosexuals in any unit in which I served. All this talk about homosexuals "already being in the military" is hogwash, except perhaps for a fraction of a percent who hide their perversion from their services.

Some of these posts are just frightening. Every person around you has secrets that have no bearing on their ability serve, fight, and die for their cause and/or country. I also believe that each of us needs to focus on our own issues and challenges before passing judgement on those around us. Should the "don't ask, don't tell" policy go away? YES... Should someone's personal preferences and choices prevent them from serving their country? NO

I understand that some people are uncomfortable around anyone who is "different" - different sexual orientation, different skin color, different religious beliefs, different education level, different morals and values... Life is an uncomfortable thing. Revel in the differences, rejoice in the similarities, and focus on the future. Like it or not, we are ALL building and sharing in that future together. It might be a more pleasant place if we learn to be more tolerant and accepting of each other - or, better yet, seek to learn from each other!

Instead of focusing on the differences, think about what we share - a desire to make a difference, a belief in honor and duty, and the same red blood that is being spilled daily...

With minds like this in our military, is it any wonder Iraq has turned into the debacle that it has?

I think satin is coming back in a big big way. It's luxurious and does well in hot terrain. Hail satin.

I very much like to discuss sexual behavior (Sodomy, anal, oral, etc))

  • The asynchronous nature of comments actually really getting appended to the posts to which they're supposedly being appended to is all gayed up. Hence the double-post.

    your smilin' pal,

  • THANKS A LOT, AUSTINIST. Now I have to change my blog name.

  • I am of course aware that not everyone in the military or FORMERLY in the military matches or even gets within spitting distance of the mindset of the ragingly homophobic asshats quoted above, but it pleases me to know that those of the military who DO hold such opinions are, just coincidentally, more likely to get the shit (and general viscera) Kalishnikov'd out of them than are civilian asshats who feel the same stupid way.

I say let all the killhungry rah-rah boys and girls go and kill each other, whether they're gay or straight, and let those of us with better things to do get on with our reading and blogging and fucking and drinking of micheladas at, say, El Chile Cafe y Cantina ...

(Um, that is: the drinking-of-micheladas-at-say-El-Chile-Cafe-y-Cantina; as opposed to implying that I do any fucking (or reading or blogging) while at that fine eatery.)

U.S. out of Iraq, Bush out of office, church out of state, and (oh yes) motherfucking snakes off this motherfucking plane!

    kthxbye,

  • Hmmm.

    1. Marines getting called back into duty on an involuntary basis due to lack of new recruits.

    2. "Say you're gay and you're out."

Seems like it would be pretty easy to avoid the recall. Or active duty in the first place. Am I missing something? It must be more complicated than that.

    live for Jesus not Satin...

Aw man! What if I want to live for both? I never knew that JC & shiny silky fabrics were mutually exclusive. Bummer.
