SXSW 2007 Open for Business

not_morrissey_8-17-06.jpgIt seems like only yesterday that we were stumbling around downtown, hopping from venue to venue, chatting with strangers and surviving on margaritas and Hot Dog King.

Wait – that was yesterday. Man, we really need to get a job.

What were we talking about? Oh, right – South by Southwest. Even though it’s seven months away, SXSW ‘07 is already gearing up. The new website is live, and registration is wide open. From now until September 29th, badges are as cheap as they’re gonna get (platinum for $650, music for $425). Music badge prices haven’t gone up a hell of a lot this year, but early-bird Platinum badges have gone up $70, so we suggest you get what you’re gonna get as soon as you can get it. The longer you wait, the more expensive it’ll be.

Or, if you’d rather wait three hours in line to buy a music wristband, you can sign up for the SXSW mailing list and wait until they announce the details (there doesn’t seem to be a text-message list yet, but we’ll let you know when there is).

In the meantime, you can relive last year’s festival at the SXSW ’06 Archive. Ah, hazy memories...

Yeah that's true - but only the cheapest music badges went up that much.

For some reason, after the first date milestone, music badges only went up around $25, which isn't that huge a deal for a badge that costs several hundred dollars to begin with. But I guess I'm more conservative with my use of the word "hefty". To each his own.

  • If you took 20% off the now lowest price and then jacked it up by 75%, what percentage of chicks at all SXSW shows in 2007 will be "hot" chicks?

If music badges start at $425, the price went up $50 since last year as the cheapest price for 2006 was $375.

    That's a pretty hefty increase.
