Elgin Girls' Softball Team in the World Series

swest.jpgWe've had a bit of a soft spot for Elgin for ages, mostly because of the sausage. Outside of that, we don't really know much about the place. But this week a group of girls from our neighboring community has bumped the barbecue off the map with their play in the Softball Little League World Series in Portland, Oregon. No, it's not the Little League World Series in Williamsport, but still, it's the pinnacle of the sport. And while we may not have attended many female youth sporting events, we can almost guarantee that the behavior surrounding the girls' game is a little less disconcerting than some of the action of parents at boys' little league games.

Check out these little kids compete for the love of the game, sans steroids, and try not get a few goosebumps.

The Elgin Little League team plays in the World Series tonight at 9pm on ESPN2.

Good luck, girls.

Hey, that's really impressive! Way to go!!

Don't be so sure. Can't vouch for softball, but judging from some girls' basketball games I've been to, the parents can be just as unruly as at the boys' games. There's just something about children & sports that causes some parents to lose it.

I live in Elgin and while it is a sleepy little town you can see something I found interesting here over at my Flickr photostream:
