Are You the Funniest Filmmaker in Austin?
Remember that Lazy Sunday parody you did after you couldn’t get The Chronic-what-cles of Narnia out of your head? Or the remake of the Sabotage video you did using your old Starsky & Hutch action figures? Well, funny guy/gal, Cap City Comedy Club and the Austin Film Festival have synergized to give you the chance to flex your inner Benigni with the Funniest Filmmaker in Austin Competition!
Get your funniest film on tape and send it in for submission. At some point in September they will screen the entries at Cap City. Judges will include some of Austin's most talented comedians - including former "Funniest Person in Austin" winners – and there will be live stand-up performed in between screenings to keep the laughs going.
Films can not be any longer than 5 minutes, so don’t sweat it if you don’t have a 15-minute short digitally edited with an epic soundtrack. You can even submit a super short clip of something you happened to catch on camera spontaneously, though we suggest staying away from cats falling off of refrigerators and whiffle ball bats to the nuts. It’s free to enter, so you have nothing to lose. But your pride. And, really, you shoulda swallowed that a long time ago.
The winning entry will play at the 13th Annual Austin Film Festival, October 19-26, 2006! So you never know who might eventually see it. Who knows, maybe you could get spotted and end up like Andy and the boys from The Lonely Island and be writing for SNL in no time.
The deadline is September 1st, 2006.
