This Weekend in Sketch and Improv: August 11th & 12th

With the start of Out of Bounds just weeks away, Austinist continues its look at sketch and improv happenings around town in this weekly series.

(Did you think sketch, improv and stand up were all the same? You aren't alone. Burn off that Burrito el Suiza you had for lunch by making your finger clicky click on improv and sketch).

Out of Bounds Tip of the Week
3 for All Improvisers Rafe Chase, Stephen Kearin, and Tim Orr "create a unique blend of intensely dramatic and outrageously funny, completely improvised scenes based on audience suggestions." (from the Out of Bounds website). Although we haven't seen them in the flesh, Time Out New York (stalwarts of all things big city culture) said they "single-handedly restored my faith in improv comedy." And the Big Apple doesn't mess with fluff praise, y'all. They were wearing gauchos before the got all popular again OK? Think about it.

Sunday, September 3rd
7:30pm @ Esther's Pool
Playing with Available Cupholders (Austin) and Dasariski (Los Angeles/Chicago - we raved on about these personal favorites a few weeks back).
For a full listing of the festival shows, go here.

The Out of Bounds Cagematch - Semi Finals
Last week, Fart Clown Glasses invoked a lot of underhanded methods to take the final spot in the OoB Semi Final round. This week Out of Bounds heads into the final countdown with a face off between The Bridgeport Correctional Facility Short Form Players (prison ladies fresh from Dallas demonstrate their gameplay) vs. One Too (the lovely Valerie Ward). Competing for the final spot in the Out of Bounds Festival Cagematch semi-finals, these two teams present 22 minutes of their best work to be voted on by the audience. Two teams enter! One team goes the way of Joe "the Losah" Lieberman (lame-ass defection aside). Can you feel the noise?!
