Stitch Looking for A Few Good Designers

Now four years in the running, Austin's annual DIY fashion extravaganza known as Stitch is just months away. Combining a juried fashion show and a craft bazaar with live bands and DJs, Stitch is a tour de force of sights and sounds that's earned its producers -- who happen to be founders of Austin Craft Mafia and hosts of Stylelicious and Craft Lab on the DIY Network -- national recognition, and given Austin some serious street cred as a bourgeoning indie fashion mecca. The November event, which seeks to celebrate "independent design, artistry, and creativity," has drawn ever-increasing participants and audiences each successive year, from a sold-out crowd of 600 in 2003 to last year's spectacle at Emo's, which drew an estimated 1,100 people and designers from all over the country. This year's will be held at the Austin Music Hall, which can accomodate upwards of 3,000 people.
There's now just over a week before their application deadline arrives; they're still actively looking for "modern crafty entrepreneurs" and runway designers. As an added incentive, they've launched a competition for participants called "The Stitch Grant: Craft & Art Indie Upstart," which will award prizes of up to $1000 to help folks kick-start their businesses.
