Stick It to the Man. On His Deck, Where it Hurts.

protestcut.jpg

Grrr. Are you one the impassioned, musical South Austinites who hate the deck attached to the South Congress Cafe? Is it totally violating your rights, like, right now? It is? Then today, dear misbegotten neighbor, is your lucky day. It's your chance to avenge yourself against those who have wronged you. And you get to exact your revenge through song. Oh, the joy.

Tonight, at the climax of First Thursday -- at the height of the evening's revelry -- you will strike.

Smart assery aside, there really is a group of neighbors getting together to protest the Cafe's deck -- saying that the restaurant never got the proper city permits to construct it. They are protesting through song, tonight, at 7pm, outside the cafe. You too can sing along. Here's an excerpt of that with which the group will be protesting, sung to the tune of Feel Like I'm Fixin' to Die Rag:

They’ve built themselves in a terrible spot
There's plenty good money to make today
By building their deck on their parking lot
By building on the public right-of-way.

Don't stand for injustice, Austin. Speak Sing your piece. We mean, peace.

  • Baby move your deck, deck.

    Lemme sing it again...

  • Brenda

Come on, come all! It'll be us and the zombies (scroll down). We're hoping they'll sing along with us.

  • They would do better to appropriate "The Thong Song." Just a personal thing, may get the kids more involved.
