Drafthouse Update: Lions On A Bus, Stunt Men, George-Michael, and Iron Chef

The August + September edition of the Alamo Drafthouse guide has left us punch-drunk. We can't believe they have packed so many unique and fun events into a usually sleepy time of year. The following are some highlights to book early for:
- Blanks On A Blank: Yes, Snakes On A Plane is finally out this month, and in what must be a first, the Alamo will be showing winners from a SOAP parody contest BEFORE anyone has actually seen the movie! Damn those bloggers. The site's intro of "Lions On A Bus" is pretty great example. We're personally hoping someone made "Giraffes On A Backhoe" or our favorite parody poster, "Grizzly Bear On A Hot-Air Balloon."
- Arrested Development Party: To celebrate the Season 3 DVD release, or to mourn the show's end, the Alamo has recruited actors Michael Cera (George-Michael) and Alia Shawkat (Maeby) to come along and tell stories about the show. They will also play some of their favorite clips from the show's three season run. This one is even free, though you have to buy a food/booze voucher to secure a seat in advance.
- The Stunt Man: Richard Rush was one of the great directors of the 60's and 70's, influencing everyone from Stanley Kubrick to Quentin Tarantino (who we guarantee will be attending this screening if he's not shooting Grind House that day). Rush will introduce his classic The Stunt Man, a film that brought Oscar nominations for both the director and star Peter O'Toole.
- Iron Chef/God Of Cookery: We all know about the theme meals that have been happening at the Alamo, but this ambitious night takes it to another level. Steven Chao's (of Kung Fu Hustle fame) God Of Cookery will be paired with the two Alamo chefs facing off in a five-course feast which will be delivered for the audience to try and vote on! It's an expensive event, but it should be great for those who attend.
We haven't even mentioned the Quentin Tarantino + The Rollergirls event (that post is coming soon), the Strange Brew screening with Canadian beers, a night of Yacht Rock, Trainspotting with Irvine Welsh, or The Wire's season premiere. For serious, grab an Alamo catalog post haste or head to the site - there is much to enjoy.
