I Have No Protest When You Say You Want to Go West

Bee Cave is awesome- life is peaceful there, lots of open air, sun in winter time. No wonder Criterion Property Co. has chosen to build its new 293-unit luxury apartment complex there. Dubbed the "Windsor," it will doubtless be a lovely place for tea and crumpets.

This sprawling slice of limestone encrusted heaven** will be conveniently located close to both the Hill Country Galleria and the Shops at the Galleria. We haven't actually "been there," but a lot of wonderful nationwide chain big box stores are already open or coming soon - Lowes, Pier One, World Market, Office Max, Petsmart, Best Buy, Marble Slab and SportsClips, to name a few. The developer was concerned about releasing the identities of the stores in advance out of fear that letter writing campaigns would dissuade the potential tenants, but they have conquered that phobia.

Are you wondering how we learned to stop worrying and love development in the once beautiful, formerly tree-covered rolling hills west of Austin? Well, like Ken Kesey said about Vietnam, protesting isn't going to make it stop. "Holding rallies and having marches ... you're playing their game ... there's only one thing to do ... and that's everybody just look at and turn your back and say '____ it.'"

** We haven't confirmed that this particular project will be limestone encrusted, but there appears to be a city ordinance or something out that way that every new building must be covered in a limestone shell.

  • anon, you jackass, the point of supporting density in the urban core is so that sprawl like this crap doesn't end up covering all the nice stuff out in the hills.

Watch your comments. I see M1EK coming on here shortly and telling everyone how this is great for the city of Austin and the surrounding areas. I'll agree once again, this development in and around Austin is out of control and destroying what almost all of the city's population likes about this city.

Yeah, destroy the entire HIll Country!

    Pave it all!

Kill all the trees, birds, animals.

    That's progress!

What bugs me is that the ass hats buying these condos think they are making an "investment." No one is going to want your crappy condo 5 years from now! They'll all be buying the new condos the developer is building upstream.

mmm crumpets... the english muffin’s little brother. I just got some yesterday at fresh plus!

  • Tim

Hooray! I'm sure they'll meet the non-existant demand as well as "The Hill Country Galleria" has. I predict 20% occupancy and enough parking for the entire city of Austin.
