Obsessed Children Remake "Raiders" Shot-for-Shot
Look out, here come Stephen Spielberg's lawyers! Just kidding; actually, the filmmaking legend was nice enough to give a legal pass to the trio of intrepid youngsters from Mississippi who, from 1982-1988, remade Spielberg and George Lucas' seminal screen adventure Raiders Of The Lost Ark. We're not kidding: then-preadolescents Eric Zala, Jayson Lamb and Chris Strompolis spent six years recreating a globe-spanning action movie in their backyard, shot-for-shot, probably with stolen lunch money. The filmmakers, all grown men by now, are currently taking the film on a small tour, but not for profit: "Mr. Spielberg and Mr. Lucas have given us a strange and silent endorsement and we're not going to exploit it," says Strompolos. "We want to stay true to the spirit in which it was created."
Apparently this thing is amazing--we saw a clip from that first scene in the cave, with the huge boulder thing, and if that's any indication this movie is even better than the original. See for yourself when the Alamo Downtown screens both remake and original films back-to-back this Friday and Saturday at 7 and 9:45 pm (respectively). All three filmmakers will be there to reflect on their singular coming-of-age experience, and maybe you'll be able to ask them how best to play Indiana Jones when your voice is changing.
RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK: THE ADAPTATION screens at the Alamo Downtown Friday July 28th and Saturday July 29th. Tickets can be purchased online at: http://www.originalalamo.com
