Ist in the City: Statesman Profiles Local Web Site

istandthecity.jpgYour favorite little internet secret is out, Austin. We've been exposed in broad daylight.

There is a local print medium in town called the Austin American-Statesman. They are a plucky lot, with a paid staff of hundreds, or so we assume, we haven't really ever interviewed them. You may have seen them linked here a time or 1,000 before.

Today, in the Life & Arts section, they profile a certain web log, also known as a blog (some kinda internet phenomenon, these blogs). The story will give you the lowdown on everything you ever wanted to know about Austinist and quite a bit you probably never needed to know.

We just wanted to take this opportunity to thank all of our readers for coming back every day and enjoying the site. In case the article does not make it clear, the reason we all do this is out of a hope of building a stronger sense of the community, artistic and otherwise, in Austin.

Without the contributions of our wonderful and dedicated staff, and without all of the input we receive from you the community on a daily basis, none of this would be possible. Please continue to read. Continue to comment. Continue to enjoy the city and give us your feedback on that about which you would like to see more on our site.

i figured it was going to be head and shoulders. at least they didn't put the pic in where we're jumping up in the air like some 3-2-1, Contact rejects.

would it have killed you to wear closed-toe shoes, odam? big ups to my boyz.

John, I guess by "stopped reading months ago," you mean, "I occasionally read Austinist and, when the mood strikes, I post vaguely condescending comments."

    BTW, congrats, Austinist.

  • John, that's the best comment. Ever, I think.

I brought the paper into work this morning, pulled it out the plastic and placed in on my desk next to me. I hadn't had a chance to even touch it since. I kept glancing over in passing seeing this guy holding a S and a T and didn't think much of it (I've been too busy). Then... While checking my daily blogs for the 2nd time today - I came across this posting and thought - I recognize that picture... And then laughed that I hadn't even opened the paper enough to know that's what it was.

But it's awesome. Very Cool. Congrats!

  • Cool! Y'all are bigtime now.

  • Read it this morning, congrats, don't forget about the little people now.

Heated picture, Senors Odam and Chen, very heated indeed. It makes me nostalgic for my Austinist days, that idyllic time before I joined the legions of genius at AAS and got paid, when I could take cheap shots with no research to back them up and remain on staff. Congratulations on the press!
