Los Weed Lovin' Boys In Trouble Again

LosFinal.jpg

Much like their mentor Willie Nelson, the former Saxon Pub regulars Los Lonely Boys can't seem to avoid getting caught with the weed.

On Saturday, Austin police responded to complaints at The Omni and arrested Boys' bassist JoJo Garza for marijuana possession... and for allegedly assaulting his fiancee Carina Lyn. While a publicist for the band has called the whole matter "a misunderstanding" and chalked the incident up to noisy partying, the Austin Police Department see it differently. An APD spokesman told the Statesman that "we can only arrest [for assault] if visible injury or complaint of pain is there, so undoubtedly the officers saw that."

Aside from Ms. Lyn, the other aggrieved party Saturday were Waterloo Records customers, who pre-purchased Los Lonely Boys discs for passes to a private 'soundcheck' concert and autograph session at Stubb's. The event was cancelled because JoJo Garza was...well, in jail at the time. The band did play their regular show at the venue later that night.

The arrest isn't the first one for the band: Ringo Garza was arrested for marijuana possesssion and alleged sexual assault in January 2005. Both charges were later dropped. The whole sequence of events leaves us feeling that the Boys should continue their years of pronounced copying of Stevie Ray Vaughan by heading to rehab.

I don't know that rehab is necessary. If so, a lot of Austinist readers might need rehab under the same circumstances. However, the abuse issue is going to be largely ignored while everyone makes pot jokes. And that shite ain't funny.

Good point. Perhaps I should've nixed the SRV joke and suggested anger management instead. So true.
