Hyde Park Bar & Grill Expands to South-South Austin

HydeParkLogo.jpgWe weren't sure if it was just a rumor when our friend told us last week that Hyde Park Bar & Grill was planning on taking over the old Grandy's at Westgate, but then we did a random google search and discovered this little gem.

According to folks at the original Duval Street location, the new HPB&G, housed in the same plaza as Central Market Westgate, is set to open sometime in September. Which means, of course, that in mere months, South Austinites won't have to travel quite as far to enjoy the best fries in town!

  • Yeah. And Manchaca isn't "Man-chack", it's "Man-caca".

"When are we going to start calling south-austin what it is ..."

I'd be happy if people would just pronounce San Jacinto correctly. It's "San (rhymes with "pan") juh SIN toe." Not, "Sahn Hah SEEN toe."

  • I refer to 290E down to Riverside as Central Austin.

  • In that vein we'd call Hyde Park/Burnett area/etc "uptown", the area from the Capitol to Town Lake "midtown" and so on???

Or, did you just mean that, really, everything from 2222 down to 290 is pretty much downtown?

I'd be up for a shift in vocab/labeling... Or, maybe I just need to feel more "urban" today for some reason.

When are we going to start calling south-austin what it is - "downtown" and start calling south-austin south-austin?
