Black Heart Procession, Castanets, and Devices, Tonight at the Parish
Like the wandering ghosts of some long-lost pirate ship, San Diego’s Black Heart Procession will invade The Parish tonight with their moaning, clanking brand of spooky country.
Though the BHP lineup is constantly shifting (and has included members of RFTC, Hot Snakes and Blonde Redhead) the current band includes Pall Jenkins and Tobias Nathaniel (both of Three Mile Pilot), Joe Plummer (Modest Mouse, Magic Magicians), Jimmy LaValle (The Album Leaf), Scot Mercado (Manuok/Via Satellite) and Matt Resovich (The Album Leaf). If that’s not some kind of indie-supergroup, we don’t know what is.
We’ve seen BHP many times, and they’re always great. If you like sad, slow, dark Americana, these guys bring it as hard as it can be brought.
And if that’s not enough to get you out tonight - San Diego’s other favorite haunted country band, Castanets, will be also be stopping in, just before they hop on that insanely cool sailboat tour with local faves Jana Hunter and Peter & the Wolf. This entry in Jana Hunter’s blog also suggests that she’s currently playing in Castanets, but don’t quote us on that.
