  • Turkey has said it was taking steps this week to prepare for a cross-border incursion into northern Iraq to hunt down Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) fighters holed up in the Qandil Mountain range.

  • Israeli troops are massing on the Lebanese border as Lebanon's president warned his army is ready to defend the country should Israel launch a full-scale ground invasion.

  • NATO's top commander said Friday the alliance will expand its Afghan mission to include the entire country, including the lawless east where militants killed a coalition soldier in the latest fighting.

  • Fears of war in Somalia are growing as Ethiopian troops allied with Somali government advance against Islamist militias.

  • Iraqi leaders seem to be losing faith in their ability to establish a functional government and seem to believe the dark days of civil war are ahead.

  • The United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti said in a statement that armed groups have attacked stations belonging to the Haitian police and UN peacekeepers.

  • The leader of the Chechen rebels have dismissed the July 19th Russian amnesty offer and Chechnya's Moscow-backed president says any further extensions are unlikely.
