Ikea Calling

Austin Business Journal reported yesterday that Swedish home goods behemoth IKEA has set out on a massive hiring binge in anticipation of its new Round Rock store opening in just a few months.

The bargain-priced furnishings retailer, also home to some particularly delectable soft-serve, is looking to fill nearly 300 positions in all areas imaginable, including interior design, customer service, security, food service, sales, and maintenance. They're offering, in return, pretty nifty benefits: full medical and dental insurance for anyone working over twenty hours a week, paid maternity/paternity leave, tuition assistance, a matched 401(k), paid time off, and, of course, hefty discounts on IKEA goods.

"We are thrilled to offer interested job seekers in the area diverse positions with limitless opportunity at a global company," says IKEA Round Rock store manager Jeff O'Shaughnessy. "At IKEA, we realize that the opportunity to be able to do the things in life that bring success and happiness is extremely valuable to our coworkers."

Currently well on its way to completion, the 252,000-square-foot adult wonderland is slated to complete construction sometime this fall. Besides the usual room settings that make navigating these stores so damned confusing, this particular location will include three fully appointed model homes.
