Siegel Gets into Hairy Situation with Kevin Smith

Mustachioed movie critic Joel Siegel got his panties in a wad during a recent New York screening of Clerks II. During a particular scene that described a donkey show, Siegel could take no more and decided to leave the movie 40 minutes into the screening. Siegel got up during the movie and apparently said, "Time to go! First movie I've walked out of in 30 fucking years." The fact that he did not like the movie did not ruffle many feathers, but the unprofessional and juvenile way in which the Good Morning America reviewer responded really pissed off Kevin Smith, who responded in his blog.

Smith appeared on the Opie and Anthony Show this morning and the boys called up Joel Siegel to ask him about his jackassery and horrible punnery in his movie reviews. Listen to the back-and-forth between Smith and Siegel here.

yea, the overt gay bashing (most of which, in fairness, seemed to come from the radio DJ's) is pretty reprehensible. as for SMith, yea, if the guy sucks and you don't care what he thinks, why waste so much time trying to fight him on it. undoubtedly siegel acted in bad taste and showed bad form and a lack of professionalism, but Smith seems hell-bent on making him see it his way. I agree with Smith's take the Siegel was in the wrong, but Smith goes to pretty great lengths here and it wreaks of sour grapes and hurt feelings. Criticism is just that, criticism. He should just get over it. Then again, I have been known to respond defensively to a commenter or two on posts here and there, so nobody is perfect. but i kinda side wit you here, rob.

Pretty funny, but I find Kevin Smith's moral indignation over Siegel's "disrespectful" behavior to be childish and just a tad ingenuous. Waa waa. Not to mention the not-so-subtle gay-bashing of Mr. Siegel. Of course, I can't tell him how to "be a man"...

Awesome. I hope Siegel's e-mail box gets flooded with criticisms of his actions. I love that he denies the quotes that are on his website. On top of that, if you've ever watched this guy that's all he does in his reviews! Siegel is an idiot.

But, I guess if Smith would have made an animated film in which Mariah Carey and Justin Timberlake do voiceovers for the charaters Sigel would have raved about it. Really - how hard of a job is it to go to movies for free and then give your opinion about it? I think we all do that for free every week.
