Friday Night Lights Call for Extras

After we announced that NBC's new fall series Friday Night Lights would be shooting in Austin, a few of you wrote in asking us about whether they were still casting for the show. We got in on this rather late, as they're indeed looking for extras today.

Two separate casting calls will be held at the 24-Hour Fitness in Round Rock (info), one at 1pm this afternoon and the second at 8:30pm this evening.

Update: Over at Austin360's Austin Movie Blog, Sarah points out several additional casting calls running through the 25th:

  • Thursday, July 20: Crockett High School Performing Arts Center, 11am-4pm
  • Friday, July 21: Pflugerville High School cafeteria, 2-8pm
  • Saturday, July 22: Barton Creek Square, center court, 10am-5pm
  • Sunday, July 23: Lakeline Mall, center court, Noon-6pm
  • Tuesday, July 25: Del Valle Junior High School cafeteria, 3-8pm
You can also find out more by calling 512-707-7934 or emailing fnl_extras at yahoo.com (Thanks, Sarah!)

The series, based on Pulitzer-Prize winning journalist H.G. 'Buzz' Bissinger's book of the same name and cousin Peter Berg's film adaptation, has a shooting budget of roughly $1.5 million per episode. Word from one Austinist staffer is that, owing to the number of high school teams already using all available sites this summer, they're building their own football field complete with artificial turf.
