Crack Attack

Now this, courtesy of an APD drug bust, is a great picture. Those are apparently "crack cookies," according to the APD blotter. By the way, the headline of that release: "Police put dent in city’s supply of crack cocaine." As one commenter pointed out, "OK - illegal drugs - not funny. But the headline is - made me think that the police had a crack party."

More blotter news below the Expand-o-Tron.

This morning brought more strange crime news. What was originally reported as two separate car-jackings turned out to be part of a crime spree that inlcuded kidnapping, armed robbery, and sexual assault. The Statesman's timeline reads like the outline for a bizarre episode of Law and Order:

12:03 a.m.: At H-E-B Cadillac is stolen and driver is shot in the buttocks.

1:18 a.m.: At Chevron gas station, man tries but fails to steal a Buick.

3 a.m.: At Woodland Heights apartments, a woman, reportedly sexually assaulted, ran naked through the complex after freeing herself from the trunk of the Cadillac.

Our sympathies go out to the victims, but that's some weird, wacky, wild stuff.

"put a dent" in the city's crack supply. I mean, one pringles can (and the little can at that) puts a dent in the supply? $50,000 in seven seizures over 10 years. Isn't this a little self-congratulatory. When one person get's a DWI does that "put a dent" in Austin's drinking and driving problem. Geez.

It's funny, a lot of people on the blotter were saying the same thing. Apparently Austin's tolerance for APD spin is very low. Surprise, surprise.

Not only that, it sounds like the city is supplying the crack, in some kind of "Crack-For-Cops" program.
