Soulive to Move Asses in Austin this Saturday

Irvi_neil.jpgJimmy Smith. Grant Green. MMW. Eddie Harris. Karl Denson. Wes Montgomery. John Scofield. If you are familiar with these names, then you need to be familiar with another: Soulive.

This trio, orginally formed in Woodstock, NY, is comprised of brothers Neal & Alan Evans and Eric Krasno, and plays some of the smoothest nastiest, funkiest jazz out there right now. Turn it Out and Soulive (Live) are both must-haves among any fans of groove-oriented jazz. The fellas have announced that they intend to take a break from heavy touring while spending a good bit of time in the studio on their upcoming album. So you best catch them while you can. Lucky for us all, they're coming to La Zona Rosa Saturday night to give Austin one last taste before disappearing into the studio and possibly embarking on some side projects.

Their shows are something you must see to fully believe. Neal, the driving force of the band, may be the finest young cat currently playing the Hammond-B3. His brother Alan, with whom he formed Soulive in 1999 keeps a wicked beat and has played with KDTU and the Greyboy All-Stars. The melodic genius of Krasno fuses elements of blues, funk and jazz, completing the soulful sound of the group. Check em out this weekend; you won't be disappointed.

Indeed - point understood. It's a shame how now the word "smooth" has been so abused. Damn you Kenny!

See you at the show perhaps ...

how dare you post this unrepresentative pic of my future lover!

yea, well, i obviously did not mean it in the sense, though the idea of kenny g does pop into my head when i say it. i meant: "even and uninterrupted in flow or flight" smooth.

i guessi could have also said grittiest, nastiest, et al.

i guess i felt juxtaposing smooth with funky made it clear these guys are not in the kenny g realm. nor are any of the aformentioned artists, as you undoubtedly are aware.

kenny g., ruining the language once again.

For the record, "smoothest" is probably not an adjective these guys would want associated with them. It has definite "Kenny G" overtones.
