One of the sillier competitions that we watched during last year's Winter Olympics was curling, a sport that involved teams of un-Olympian-like people gliding in tandem pairs down a slab of ice, accompanied by a big rock, while furiously carving a pathway ahead of them. We still don't understand why the Canadians are so keen on this, though we'd imagine it to be intensely cerebral, mostly because there's so very little happening on the ice.
We might, then, try and check out the new Lone Star Curling Club, which just debuted this week at the Northcross Mall ice rink:
The game is so much harder than Olympians make it look, but it's also a lot of fun."It's very much a team sport. It's great for kids. It's great for adults, and you can play it all your life," expert Anne Rolison said.
The trick to curling is a matter of reducing friction. There are two basic pieces of equipment - the slider that goes on the foot to help keep up with the stone and the broom that reduces friction in front of the stone.
