Shows And Shows

This being one of those quality-over-quantity weekends for bands and rocking and, y'know, that kind of thing, you won't really have to make any tough decisions. Friday night you got Sonic Youth w/Awesome Color at Stubb's. Thurston & Co. have aged so gracefully they just might be wheeled onto the stage encased in blocks of carbonite; they're like 50 years old! Nonetheless, if you've never seen Kim Gordon do her cheerleader dance, or heard "Silver Rocket" played live, please do yourself a favor and go see this show. Down the street from that, you got Beerland's 5 Year Anniversary, which will feature, among other things, a band called Human Being Lawnmower and will probably run from happy hour to last call and beyond.
Saturday gives you The Futureheads w/French Kicks at La Zona Rosa. French Kicks are pretty 2001, but F'Heads rock the pants off any other band riding this whole new-punk-post-wave-core thing that's all over VH-1 and iPod commercials these days. They're pretty vicious, and where else are you gonna buy a Best Wurst hot dog on the venue premises? Nowhere, that's where.
