Pervasive Software to Reinstate High Tech Jobs

cleaver.jpg

Pervasive Software has become the first local high tech company to finally come to its senses. After just a few years of experimenting with offshoring software development, QA, IT, and more, they're throwing in the towel and moving jobs from India to Austin. (Yes, we're aware that several local companies have either hastily backed out of or withdrawn plans for offshored customer support work, but this is a first for dev, IT, and the like.)

Our favorite quote:
"...we have found that the complexity of managing such an operation and the increasing costs of labor, employee turnover, training, and facilities in a hot market such as Bangalore make it challenging to ultimately realize those savings."

So for the people we know who've either been laid off or have quit their jobs in despair after seeing their coworkers marched to the door 20, 75, 150 at a time.... For Mike, Karin, Dave, Linda, Cindy, Steve, Mike, Sue Anne, Jim, John, Melanie, Graham, Beth, Mike, Ken, Tana, Bill, Cheryl.... For so many Austinites who've felt the bite of the layoff bug.... This one is for you.

It seems like it was just a feew years ago that outsourcing was the wave of the future. Apparently all those other countries caught on and said "hey, you're not going to exploit us anymore." That's good news - it was predicted long ago that this would only provide temporary bottom line relief to some companies. I foresee a lot of jobs coming back to Austin in the next few years.
