B.E.A.T. At Beauty Bar Tonight

Ahhhh, they’re BACK! The Breakthrough Emerging Artists Tour ( B.E.A.T. ) has returned to Austin. Tonight, it's happening at Beauty Bar.

The idea behind BEAT is pretty badass, actually. It’s a regional contest that spans 25 cities, where the competition submits their work by way of interweb (through imeem, which is, well, more web-tech fun to join in on). A myspace-esque profile is set up through imeem, and the music is jammed all up in it for the world’s listening pleasure. Then the bands/DJs get their friends/baby’s-daddies/parole-officers to sign up, listen, and vote them into a SxSW venue spot.

It's a free-for-all, so get that ukulele quartet back together. Bring the science.

The tour stops through those 25 markets and displays whoever signed up to perform and got some mad voting points, apparently. As Psyckosis and DJ Baby Boyardee shall both be doing tonight at Beauty Bar. Ten bucks says Psyckosis will get a tight pedi/perm while he’s there.
