Negligent Mother Sends Child on Worst Trip Ever
It’s been a bad week or so for Austin parents. First one sues MySpace after her daughter went on a date with a man who eventually molested her. Now, this.
A Cedar Park mother took her three year-old child to a party in north Austin over the weekend and apparently lost site of her kid for a few minutes. Harmless, right? In the company of other responsible adults, right? Not so much.
The poor child found a roll of Sweettarts, and, as any three year-old would, he ate a few. Nine to be exact. The problem was, these weren’t just run-of-the-mill Sweettarts. They were laced with LSD. He ate nine.
We have taken know people who have taken plenty of acid in our their day. Just hearing this story, in addition to breaking our hearts, gave us them terrible flashbacks. The thought of a three year-old’s brain trying to process that much lysergic is horrifying beyond words.
The friend throwing the party noticed what had happened, and the mother, Ashli Rene Freas of Cedar Park, took the child home immediately. Where she proceeded to call…friends! Not an ambulance or Poison Control. Friends! They came over and after observing the kid trip for an hour THEY finally called 911. The friends.
The child was rushed to the hospital where the mother was eventually arrested. We are beside ourselves about this entire incident. The reckless disregard for her child’s safety is unconscionable. If you are going to expose your kid to a bunch of partying adults, you should know exactly what kinda party it is. We are not doctors but we can imagine the effects of this drug experience will linger with the child for a lifetime.
