You've Got A Friend In Joe

We've never been to Hawaii but we like to imagine a coffee shop on the big island is much like Genuine Joe's--laid back, kind of funky, kind of quaint, and featuring daily lattes like Mango Nut.

Genuine Joe Coffeehouse resides in the Crestview neighborhood, planted on Anderson Lane between Lamar and Burnet. With its festive green sign and outside design, it stands out happily amidst the strip mall atmosphere of the area.

Open since August of 2005, the coffeehouse has fast become beloved by neighborhood coffee drinkers, which is just how owners Dave Swainston and Vic Levi like it. "We love all our regulars and newbies from the neighborhood....they definitely have made this place a home away from home. We can't even tell you how many times people still say, 'We've been praying for a coffeehouse like this to open up on Anderson--we're so glad you're here.' That is just what Dave and I wanted to do, so it's very rewarding to hear that", says Vic.

Dave and Vic searched hard for the perfect place for their coffehouse. They wanted an older home with character, and a place that was truly part of the neighborhood. "Genuine Joe Coffeehouse is a place to be yourself, relax, and take it all in. The fact that we were able to find a location that had old wood floors and ceilings and then fill it with comfy couches and chairs just fit in with how we envisioned the place." And the coffee is good, too!
