Have You Done Your Good Deed Today?
We’re suckers for a good book and for a good cause. The Dewey Donation System lets us indulge in both. Started by mega-achievers Pamela Ribon and David T. Cole, the site connects needy libraries with shameless book addicts donors.
Their 2006 book drive focuses on the Harrison County Library in Mississippi. Several of the library’s branches were devastated by Hurricane Katrina and lost many or all of their books and materials; others fared better in the hurricane but because of limited funds are struggling to acquire new materials.
To help restock their shelves, the libraries have created wish lists from which you can select specific books to donate. All the fun of book shopping plus the added glow of a good deed!
Visit the Dewey Donation System to view the wish lists and make a donation. And after you've made your donation, make sure to register on the system’s donor map so we can feel all smug show everyone how much Austin cares.
