Oh the Horror!

ut.jpg

UT's South Mall -- you know, "the Six-Pack" -- is playing host to some filming action today. It's for The Hitcher (2007). You can check out what iMDB has to say about it here. Apparently it's about a hitch-hiker -- an evil hitch-hiker -- and some unassuming morons who pick him up.

Filming has evidently taken place on 290 East and at UT. They've decked some presidential statues with shrubs, USA Prez George Washington and CSA Prez Jefferson Davis (*prezidential fun factz: Davis went to Transylvania University and both men owned slaves; shocker!). Just know that if you're on UT Campus this week parking has gone from bad to super-bad and you run the risk of surrendering your likeness to The Hitcher, yikes! What is this, Transylvania University all of the sudden? There is also a catering trailor that may or may not be easy to steal food from.

Yikes. Yeah. I somehow saw the original when I was 10. Not really sure how that happened--small town theater owner must not have been paying attention because our parents sure as hell wouldn't have let us see it. But it is the single most reason I don't watch scary movies of any kind to this day. I still have the occasional nightmare about being strung up between two big rigs. Again, yikes.

  • Oh the horror that they're re-making another horror classic. Just go rent the C. Thomas Howell/Rutger Hauer original (1986) and ignore this bullshit.

No surprise that Michael Bay is producing, the guy responsible for remakes of Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Amityville Horror (not to mention colossal crap like Pearl Harbor and Armageddon). They're releasing it on Friday, April 13th, 2007.

The original had a scorched desert look to it. If I remember right, some of it's in Texas, but it was all filmed in California and Nevada.

I guess it's too much to ask for a decent original horror flick.
